| Life transformation begins with a meal. Nobody comes to the doors of Shining Light Ministries looking to change their life. People cone because they have an addiction, or because they are hungry, or in need of clothing or a place to stay. Yet providing for those basic needs is the first step. S.L.M. never turns away anyone; and it reserves a special place for those who have reached a point where they are ready to dramatically transform their lives. The food program normally serves as a "pantry", providing grocery items such as cans of soup, bags of noodles, fresh produce, etc. once a month. Typically about 180 households are served each month. In order to maintain a well-stocked pantry, Shining Light Ministries must keep supplies of staple grocery items that provide nutrition for hungry families and have a longer shelf life in many cases. Cereal, oatmeal, cans of tuna and other lunch meats, iced tea mix, packages of soup and other non-perishable items are needed to have a more nutritious and complete pantry. S.L.M. also serves Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to over 100 households annually, as well as supplying approximately 600 Christmas gift bags for children each year, which include toys, clothing, food and Bible stories. Emergency clothing and shelter are provided as well. Families or individuals come to Shining Light when they have no where else to turn. Churches regularly refer people to the ministry if they are in emergency such as fire, eviction or loss of job. People are invited to stay at the ranch for 30-60 days. |
